From Wasteland to Substation: A 66kV 200MVA Substation Build in Middlesbrough

After 16 months of hard work, I’m proud to finally share a few photos from one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever worked on. Alongside my good friend and colleague Rick Bobela, we took on the challenge of building a 66kV 200MVA substation—starting from nothing but waste ground.

From the first shovel in the dirt to final commissioning, Rick and I were there every step of the way. This wasn’t just a job—it was a full-scale transformation. The site evolved from barren land into a critical piece of infrastructure, powering the region and supporting future growth.

Massive thanks to everyone who supported us throughout the build. The teamwork, dedication, and technical precision involved in this project were second to none.

Here’s to the next challenge—and to always building with pride.
